I am on a flight to Boston back from Las Vegas. Wow, what a place! It is a playground for adults. It is shiny and to be honest, nothing is what it seems. Girls aren’t just girls, guys aren’t just guys, partying isn’t just partying but still money flows through the veines of the Strip giving it its glitter-glowing-wonderland vibe 24/7. It is just a fun place for Americans and everybody to go have fun. Bachelor, bachelorette, rap-star, Russian-oligarch, Mexican-drug-cartell member everybody is here and everybody parties. After all, what could possibly go wrong in Las Vegas. Well, well…since people say “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”, I want to get into a different topic.
With friends we went out several times in various of the top-notch clubs. Some famous DJ would put on music and the crowd would go crazy. At one place I actually really didn’t enjoy the music. It was incredibly boring and stupid. I was wondering how it could be humanely possible to like such music. I had a great view in the crowd and people even knew the lyrics. Although, everybody would know them after one minute since it mostly consists of words our parents want us not to say when we are young. It is a great selection of those and random high-low beats. It is hard to enjoy and one has to drink a lot of water to be able to dance to such kinds of music.
I was there with friends and we had a fun time. However, I was wondering how one could meet a girl going out to such a club. A sidenote might be necessary here, this kind of music is played all across the US in expensive clubs, even the world I guess, so it doesn’t just apply to Las Vegas. Anyways, you should never try to meet a girl in Vegas because the odds on this are pretty high that she is a hooker. For the other girls in Vegas in the rest of the world, how would you approach somebody?
It is really hard to imagine. The only kind of dancing with a girl to such kind of music can be seen best with the example of Miley Cirus. For those who don’t know her. She was an innocent teen on TV. That was the start of her product life cylce as I like to make the analogy. Then she progressed to party-girl. And now she is pretty slutty and fucked up twerking her way to phase-out which will be the end for her career. So, this is the only way I see having physical contact with a girl when dancing to such kind of music. Otherwise you stand opposite to each other going somewhat up and down. I was proven right seeing dozens of guys doing it.
For me that was a bit sad. While being on the plane I plugged my headphones in the armrest and there is music such as Tutti Frutti by Little Richard. Back in the day one could dance with another person innocently in a “club” or “disco”, have decent eye-contact and smile. It is harder nowadays. Even in the 70s and 80s it seemed to be possible. But nowadays clubs are predominatly playing crappy sound even if you pay 35$ to get in the fanciest club of the city. Yes. The diner off-strip with a Jukebox plays better music for a dollar!
Also on that note, I saw a fun meme on 9gag the other week. On one side you could see Beyonce with her song about how girls rule the world. On top it said “6 writers, 4 producers” and on the other side was Freddy Mercury with the lyrics to “Bohemian Rhapsody” which said on top “1 writer, 1 producer”.
Somehow music and the social aspect of it is lost. Good music is hard to come by. Of course, even today there is great music being written and sung every day. What concerns me is the mainstream which is incredibly uncreative and worryingly one-sided. As with children who use bad words to get attention or something like this, I hope as well, that it is only a phase and we will return to good music even in mainstream at some point. For now, keep calm and carry on.
